What We Did

Worship yesterday
We had more than 80 people join us live.
We have had more than 800 people watch the video
So we are really meeting people’s needs
Join us at 10am next Sunday
Live message every day at 1pm

  1.  Here’s what you need to know

New guidelines from the CDC
Cancel gatherings of 50 people for eight weeks (mid-May)
Candidating week?
Church closed today

Board meeting on Tuesday
Wylder Hall with lots of physical distancing.

Exploring options for video-conferencing.
Group leaders – watch for further instruction.

Looking for ways for people to stay connected to each other and connected to the church.
Facebook
More frequent emails from the church
I might set-up a Zoom Room “drop-in” group once a week
Assigning church “buddies” – and go ahead and do this yourself right now.
Use your phone
Question of how church members can tell us you need help
And how we can assign helpers.
Remember delivery services
And reach out to your neighbors who live alone.

Don’t have all the answers right now

The church office will probably be closed starting Wednesday
Except for people coming in to do a particular job and then leaving right away.

Question of how to pay hourly staff when they aren’t working

If you can continue to pay your pledge please do so.
And make your pledge for next year – you can always change it later.

The church is going to look very different over the next several weeks
But we want our church to stay strong.
Vunerable people rely on us.
For companionship
For hope
And for help
Let’s help take care of each other.

Worst vacation ever

As you stay at home as much as possible
And isolate as much as possible
I want you to remember that you are still part of a church
Churches are places of caring, compassion, community

Churches are also place that understand long time frames.
“tough times never last but tough people do”  Robert Schuller
We know that human events are temporary
But human history is long
Human communities are long
Church institutions are long
Our church was here during the 1918 flu epidemic.
We survived the depression
We got through World War II
We have been here decade after decade

Now, this generation of the church is being asked
To carry our church through this.
Hopefully this crisis will be short and in hindsight not seem as difficult
As some of those challenges we’ve already faced.
Or maybe, some future generation of this church will look back at us
With gratitude.
For what we did to take care of each other
And take care of our church
When we were called to do so.

See you tomorrow at 1pm
