Don’t Cancel, Replace

Candidating week
Information coming from the UUA later this week or early next.
MSC has been working very hard and successfully.
Everything is on track so far.
I’ll encourage the MSC to communicate directly via email announcements or ADVANCE

Board Meeting last evening

New church office hours:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9am-noon
Except for people coming in to do a particular job and then leaving right away.
Staff will continue to be paid regularly scheduled hours.
All events and meetings at the church are canceled.
Exploring Zoom options.

Board approved a small group ministry plan
Existing groups – led by current leaders
Requested groups – perhaps led by staff
Proposed groups – led by lay volunteers

Board approved an all church “connections” survey

If you can continue to pay your pledge please do so.  And make your pledge for next year – you can always change it later.
Go to the church’s webpage and click on the “give” button.

Shifting to virtual church
Probably for the long-term
A big change, heavy lift.
Change will be gradual but steady.
Please stay connected any way you can
And look for more ways to stay connected as they arrive.

Started this morning thinking about the things I miss
I miss going to the gym
I miss going to Disney Hall for the LA Phil
My trip to Chicago to see the Ring Cycle has been canceled.
I’m already missing the Spiritual Goals Creative group that I convene on Thursday.
Jim said he missed the podcasts that he used to listen to in the car when he drove to work.

And then I decided to think about how I could replace everything I’m missing.
Instead of Gym – Take a walk
Or Jim and I could go to a park and have a picnic
Instead of the music concerts – I can start to play the piano again.
Instead of the creative group – I can spend time making art at home.
Make a collection of pieces like a “Coronarvirus Diary”
Jim suggested I could make some art that we could put up in our windows to share with people in the apartment across the street.

We need to learn to love our homes again

And we need to find the joys that we may have forgotten about.

See you tomorrow at 1pm
