Leading Men by Christopher Castellani

A novel that creates a fictional story around true incidents in the life of Tennessee Williams and his boyfriend Frank Merlo in the 1950s. The coup de theatre (coup de roman?) is the author’s invention of an unproduced final play by Williams, reproduced in the novel.
