Not the church

The sixth of seven works of spiritual mercy
Instruct the ignorant
Counsel the doubtful
Admonish the sinner
Bear wrongs patiently
Forgive offenses willingly
Comfort the afflicted
Pray for the living and the dead

Corresponding to the seven works of corporeal mercy
Matthew 25:35-36
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
Plus:  Bury the dead

Comfort is what we do when we can’t fix
I can’t make it better
But I can be with you
Comfort might ease suffering
But doesn’t remove the cause

Where do you go for comfort?
Comfort food?
Other childhood signifiers
I like to take a bath and read
Comfy clothes on the couch 
with a book or movie
“Netflix and chill”
Put on a soothing record
Turn the lights low
Lie down and close your eyes
Petting a cat
A cozy chair in a sunny spot
Or a bench out in the sun
Maybe lying on the grass in the shade of a tree.

Maybe you could call a friend
And tell them, “I just need to share how I’m feeling right now”
Don’t tell me how to fix this
Just listen.

Seek out a place of comfort for yourself
