I painted this many years ago, sometime in the mid 1990s I believe. I learned the word “theodicy” when I was in seminary from 1995 to 1998, so it must be from them. It’s painted in oil on top of an earlier artwork that I had created as a companion for yet another work that I had created around 1986. But after having it framed decided I didn’t want to keep the art work, but wanted to reused the frame. It hung over a closet in my and Jim’s downtown apartment when we were there but I didn’t feel it was worth moving so I left it behind and someone in the building picked it up.
