Message

Let’s support each other

Several folks have sent me emails or other messages thanking me for the work I’m doing.
That feels so good.

I encourage you to reach out to the other church staff, too.
They are all working very hard right now.

While some people are currently out of work
Other folks are working harder than ever before
And being asked to learn brand new skills
I thought I was too old and too close to retirement to every have to figure out how to do church online
Boy was I wrong.

Folks who are out of work need your support
Give them a call
Check-in
Even if you can’t offer practical support
Social support/Spiritual support is so important

And people who are on the job also need support
I sent an email to my Kaiser doctor
Thanking him for helping me get over a sinus infection last month
And just telling him I was grateful for him and his staff
I sent a message to Mayor Eric Garcetti thanking him for his leadership.

And folks doing non-professional work also need to know that we’re noticing everything they are being asked to do.
Parents with kids at home
Folks caring for vulnerable people in their home
Anyone who is volunteering (food bank/Red Cross/the church)

Let’s notice each other
All that we’re going through
All that we’re being asked to do
And let’s be extravagant with our expressions of gratitude.

And finally
One more category of person to be grateful for.
Yourself
Take time each day to acknowledge your own strong spirit
All that you’re going through
All that you’re being asked to do
And be extravagant with your gratitude for your own self

Make it a brief, check-in, meditation you do with yourself several times a day.

Thank you, Rick…
For all the work you’re doing, all the stress you are carrying.
I see you.
You are doing the best you can under really extraordinary circumstances.
Thank you.

See you tomorrow.
