Goodbye

There’s a god in each goodbye
A goodly deity who lingers on past each departing
Who keeps good company when companions sever
An essence of goodwill that lingers after
The heat of final embrace has cooled
And image fades and sound has stilled
Yet staying near, both there and here
A quick emissary flies between
And is with each continually across the gap
The God of love, and care, and holding close
Defines a divine space from which none can ever be flung far
And thus, though we go, we yet remain
And though long gone do never leave.
