Spirit of Laughter

Spirit of Life, and Love, and Laughter
Praise the joker, the jester, the clown.
Bless the comic who stands up to the dour
The fool at his highest when his pants are down.

Here’s to the flower that squirts the sniffer
The weirdos, the wacky, the silly disguise.
Praise for the innocent truth-teller, guileless
And an actual wise-guy, schooling the wise.

What a gift to be lifted when low
To be downed a peg when we’re proud
To allow the glory of human folly
And to hear the last laugh laughed loud.

When our souls are sick and sinking
Throw us a life-line of mirth.
One word, the syllable “Ha!”
Has power to humor the earth.
