We are well into the holiday season now. I mentioned Bodhi Day in my sermon last week. The actual day is December 8. The eight days of Hanukkah began Thursday evening. We will light a menorah during our service this Sunday. I’ll also honor the Virgin of Guadalupe, whose feast day in the Roman Catholic calendar is December 12.
The winter solstice falls on the evening of Thursday, December 21. Our church will host a solstice gathering from 5:30 – 6:30 PM. All ages are welcome.
Christmas Eve is on a Sunday this year. During our regular Sunday morning service on December 24, we will honor the holiday with a children’s nativity pageant. In the evening, we will offer a special Christmas Eve service with lessons and carols, candles, and the choir singing. I will preach a homily titled, “On the Eve.” If you’re interested in reading one of the Gospel lessons, please let me know.
The church office will be closed and the staff taking vacation from Christmas Day through New Year’s Day. Our Sunday morning worship on December 31, will be a service appropriate for the New Year’s Eve celebrations led by our Worship Committee.
However you celebrate and whichever holidays are meaningful to you, I hope you enjoy a wonderful season.
