Volunteer Fair and Water Communion

Volunteer Fair, August 27 and September 3
On August 27 and September 3, after the worship service, we’ll invite church members to sign up for a volunteer position for the coming year.  During the month of August our worship service will feature testimonials from committee chairs describing the work they do and the opportunities they have available for folks to get involved.  Think of these next several weeks as something like our Spring stewardship campaign, but instead of a pledge of financial support we’re looking for a pledge of service.  The theme is “Find Your Place!”  Where will your place be at the church for the coming year?

Water Communion, September 10
The church year officially begins with the “Ingathering” service the Sunday after Labor Day.  Many UU churches mark the day with a water communion ceremony.  This year, our ritual will be a little different than you may have experienced in the past.  Rather than bring water from home, or from your summer travels, we’ll provide the water at church that Sunday.  Your part will be to bring your memories and feelings about water that are special to you:  a peaceful lake, a powerful ocean, a laughing stream, tears you’ve shed or wiped from someone’s eyes, water that cleans, water that refreshes.
