Artist’s Corner

I’m enjoying the new feature in our weekly newsletter:  the “Artist’s Corner”  Take a look at Reid Swanson’s gorgeous quilt in this week’s edition.  The idea comes from Terry Hassman-Paulin, our Newsletter Editor.  Terry does so much for the church, and this idea is just one example of her own creativity..

Terry’s idea allows us to show off one thing I know about our congregation:  we celebrate creativity.  We are a place that loves beauty.  We love to share stories, and songs.  We love words, and images.  We are artists, and actors, and carpenters, and bakers and gardeners.  Some of us like to stand in the spotlight, or at the microphone, or at the pulpit.  Others of us are the creative folks who flip the switches, plug in the microphones, organize the order of service, and direct the people to be where they need to be.

Everyone is creative, I’m certain.  We are the creators of our own lives and co-creators of the world we share.  Our creativity connects us to the divine creativity that endlessly brings the new out of the past, from the bang at the beginning to the still unfolding surprises that we dream up and make real today.  It brings me joy to find my place in that story, and to be in a community that honors our creative spirit.
