The Year of the Tiger

Happy Lunar New Year!

Welcome to the year of the tiger.  Tigers are supposed to represent power, courage, confidence, leadership and strength.  To the Chinese, the tiger is the king of the beasts.  And tiger’s have a special ability to banish evil.

Maybe those qualities are something you would like to invite into your life this coming year.

The Chinese cycle of years includes twelve animals and five elements:  wood, fire, earth, metal, and water.  This is a water year.  For me, water has the qualities of calm, overcoming obstacles, persistence.  So putting the two together a “water tiger” year might be a year of gentle strength, quiet bravery, slow change, a year to get things done but gradually, with patience grounded in faith.

The two cycles of animals and elements combine for a long cycle of 60 years, so the last time we had a water tiger year was 1962.  That’s the year I was born.  I’m a water tiger.  This is my year.

Maybe this can be your year, too.
