To the bees
Seeking their future
In the flowers beside me
I’m not much.
They investigate
My yellow shirt
But my bright advertisement
Doesn’t deliver.
Neither are they
Much more to me
Than gentle visitors.
Single bee
Unknown and unnecessary
We diverge to useful pursuits
To blossoms and business
To home and hive
Yet the bee hovering
About my shirt button
Still buzzes these
Days later
As I and it
Entwined then
Are evermore entangled.
Once stung, as it were, now
Engaged in eternal enterprise
Here in the cup of memory
And the sweet nectar
Of perpetual communion
