I didn’t make it all the way home on Tuesday. After the men’s breakfast (great fun) and a good visit with Elaine and Red LeCain, I started south. The rain was getting heavy and the freeway message boards were warning of gusty winds in the Grapevine. I knew the temperature was dropping and that snow would start later in the afternoon but I thought I might get through in time. But just before Interstate 5 starts up the hill, I decided not to risk it.
I found a hotel and spent the night. I’d packed an extra set of clothes and a book to read just in case, and I was perfectly comfortable. The photo above I took from my hotel as I was working out in the fitness room. You can see the snow was pretty low!
After a nice night I had a lovely drive back to Los Angeles Wednesday morning. The road was dry. No wind. If I had continued home Tuesday in the rain I would have missed the beautiful snow covered hills. What a refreshing, inspiring, vision. A gift of beauty for me. A gift of water for our thirsty land.
